Summary/Abstract: Viewed as „strangers“, the peregrini constituted the majority of Rome’s population. Although they did not have roman citizenship, still the peregrini benefited from specific rights. The main points of interests in the article are to examine the legal status of these people under ius gentium and to explore how this status differed from Roman citizenship. Lastly the study will try to give a classification of the distinct types of peregrini.
