Summary/Abstract: Vladimir Boutmy (1935-1994) Born on 22 February 1935 in Kishinev, Vladimir Boutmy was a major figure of the anticommunist resistance in Romania. Arrested by the Securitate in 1954, he was sentenced to hard labour for life. Boutmy died on 10 April 1994 in France killed by a merciless disease. Constantin Cenușă (1911-1964) Constantin Cenușă was a leading figure of the anticommunist resistance in Bukovina after Soviet invasion in 1944. He surrendered himself to the communist authorities in 1951. Cenușă’s suicide, after his release from prison in 1964, was dubious. Ioan Flueraș (1882-1953) Ioan Flueraș was a leader of the Transylvanian Romanians who initiated the Central Romanian National Council. Leader of the Romanian social-democracy, he had an important role in the unification of the socialist movement in Romania in 1920. Supporting an autonomous socialist politics towards Comintern, he came into conflict with socialist and communist circles in Romania and the Soviet Union. Arrested by communist authorities in 1945, he died in prison in 1953, in tragic circumstances.
