Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to determine the knowledge and prevalence of the phenomenon of speed-watching, i.e. accelerated viewing of audiovisual materials, among the study group, which comprised users of streaming media (in particular VOD and OVP platforms) who expressed a willingness to participate in the study. Speed-watching is a new and relatively poorly researched consumption practice and has its source in the constantly growing program offer and the socially conditioned need to constantly “be up to date.” The introductory part of the article presents the issues of the culture of excess and the resulting changes in the style of dealing with digitally transmitted content, as well as the general outline of the Polish market of on-demand media services. In turn, the empirical part presents the results of a survey conducted among people who use streaming services (303 people). The analysis covers not only the level of popularity of speed-watching, but also the factors that motivate viewers to practice it and the habits that accompany it. According to the research, accelerated reception concerns 7 out of 10 respondents; the pace of screenings varies depending on the personal preferences of users; and speed-watching itself complements other practices, such as binge-watching or multiscreening.
