Summary/Abstract: U-Space represents an important undertaking of the European Union for creating a new set of services relying on a high-level digitization and automation of functions designated towards ensuring a safer airspace for a new category of vehicles: drones. U-Space allows e-registration, e-identification and geofencing of unmanned aerial vehicles with the purpose of general public safety. The purpose of U-space is therefore to achieve automated unmanned aerial vehicle management and integration, allowing for a large series of operations, many of them simultaneous, and all of this in harmonious coexistence with the current aerial traffic management system. This paper will outline how U-Space was adopted, what level of integration it has reached and we will try to outline future changes to the system.
