Internet hate against patients and healthcare professionals during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic in Poland

Summary/Abstract: The subject of these considerations is the problem of publishing hateful content (comments) on the Polish Internet against people affected by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, as well as health care workers – doctors, nurses and paramedics. In the publication, I analyse the content of selected news websites, in which articles about sick people or health care workers were published during the first few months of the epidemic. Reflections on the discussed issue have been enriched with specific examples – cases of extremely brutal and cruel e-attacks. The article is an attempt to answer the question about the scale of hate, the level of brutality of comments published in selected news websites, as well as the possibilities of defending against hate speech and hate behaviour in Polish cyberspace. An important aspect is the question of the systemic approach – the possibilities of solutions that would effectively discourage or even prevent the use of hate speech online. The publication emphasises the risks associated with the spread of aggressive comments, and also verifies the currently functioning solutions aimed at minimising on-line hate.
