Ivan Levynskyi’s contribution to the development of the garden-city concept on the example of Kastelivka district in Lviv

Summary/Abstract: The article discusses professor Ivan Levynskyi’s significant contribution to the development of the garden-city concept on the example of Kastelivka district in Lviv. This study was undertaken to further research on the evolution of Kastelivka as a garden-city and the famous architect’s involvement in the project. The authors relied on common research methods (historical analysis, comparative analysis, observation, systemic analysis) and conducted local surveys. The urban structure of Kastelivka was described, and single-family homes (villas) in the district were surveyed. Building facades and gardens were compared with the frontage zone. The study revealed that Kastelivka was flagship project in urban planners’ efforts to introduce the garden-city concept in Galicia.
