Jakać Dworna – a Memorial Site Dedicated to Russian Soldiers Killed in the November Uprising

Summary/Abstract: The article is dedicated to the Russian memorial site in Jakać Dworna. The monument was erected in 1849, and it became a permanent element of the local cultural heritage. It commemorates the events of May 1831 when the Polish Army commanded by General Jan Skrzynecki (commander-in-chief) began military operations against Grand Duke Michael Pavlovich’s Guards Corps. The main battles were fought near Długosiadło, Jakać, Rutki, Żółtki, Tykocin and Ostrołęka. More than ten years after the war, Tsar Nicholas I commissioned the construction of memorial sites near Jakać and Ostrołęka. The article describes the events surrounding the construction of the monument in Jakać Dworna. The research problem was analyzed in the context of the political situation in the Kingdom of Poland during and after the fall of the November Uprising.
