Summary/Abstract: With the pontificate of Nicholas V, the age of Renaissance in the Roman Church involved all the aspects of spiritual and political life. The secular institution of the crusade was reinterpreted by new patterns especially after the conquest of Constantinople, but a largely process of rethinking Christendom was underway. An unpublished work from 1455 (Lampo Birago’s Strategicon adversus Turcos) offers a new perspective on the Romanian people, on his origins and his military virtues.
