Laughter Culture in Post-communism

Summary/Abstract: In the present study I analyze a topic little discussed in the current humanities literature: the appearance and evolution of laughter in today’s society. It refers, of course, to the presence of laughter in the public space, to its importance and role from an imagological point of view. The article begins with an introduction in to the issue of laughter, followed by a brief history of the presence of laughter, of relaxed and detached expression, in the public space, especially in the political one, in the second section. It is worth noting that in the Romanian public space laughter is used as an element of non-verbal communication, as a political tool to express charisma, self-confidence or, above all, at least in a first phase, of change. I will finally look at laughter has spread and conquered the entire public space, currently being appropriated as a social norm of behavior and politeness.
