Summary/Abstract: This paper presents the theoretical experience of the importance of anthropological knowledge in the formation of professional competence of students of philological disciplines. Specific attention is paid to the history of the discipline as well as to the methodological challenges it faces today. Among the major issues under consideration is the one about theoretical disciplinary heritage, as well as the one about inevitability of its modernization. The dynamic changes in contemporary Bulgarian anthropology and its reflection in university curricula is also one of the issues under discussion.
