Summary/Abstract: The oldest Croatian primers from 16th century can show us the historical methodology of literacy, methodology of reading and learning. They are the source for historical literacy methodology and didactic approaches on learning in general. Using examples of the primerTabla za dicu (1561) this article presents the review of historical methodology of literacy, memorization, learning, and learning to read. Tabla za dicu provides an excellent insight into the ancient pedagogical and educational culture, which can help in understanding the continuity of Croatian literacy.
