Summary/Abstract: This paper analyzes the language of stories “Tear and joy of Grandpa” and explores the characteristics of Imotski speech. It also explores student’s understanding of lexicals in Ramljak’s stories and the role of linguistic peculiarities of Ramljak’ texts in Croatian language classes. The characteristics of Imotski speech have been determined by the analysis of language in Ramljak’s stories at lexical, phonological, morphological, syntactic and stylistic level. Seventh grade students did not fully understood Ramljak’s vocabulary. Making a discussion out of the selected linguistic features of Ramljak’s text, students have noticed their role in the literary text.
