Summary/Abstract: This article deals with the role of managers in enterprise development planning. The development of an enterprise in the long term is influenced by strategic management. Strategic decisions are made at higher levels of management. The orientation of activities is derived from the goals of the enterprise and the strategic plan. These issues are carried out by managers, hence enterprise development planning depends on the skills and strategic competence of managers. The basis for assessing these skills and competencies can be the theses developed by H. Hinterhuber. Skills and competencies can be evaluated at the level of: low - sufficient, medium - good, high - very good. The higher the skills and strategic competencies of the company's executives, the higher the probability of achieving success in the development of the company.
