Disaster Management in Türkiye and the Importance of Using Technology in Disasters

Summary/Abstract: In this study, the organizational structure, basic policies, priorities and the use of technology in disasters related to disaster management of Türkiye are discussed. The concept of management, disaster, technology and disaster technologies was briefly explained, and then the change-transformation and priorities of Türkiye's disaster policies in the fight against disasters were touched upon. The aim of the study is to try to explain the structural-functional transformation in the fight against disasters in Türkiye and the place and importance of technology in this process. The data used in the study were obtained by the text analysis technique one of the qualitative research methods. In the study, it has been seen that important lessons have been taken from the painful experiences of Türkiye, and accordingly, structural, functional and mentality transformation has been aimed at in the fight against disasters. It is stated that there is a transition away from the traditional disaster management approach focusing on the disaster moment towards a riskoriented integrated disaster management approach. In addition, it has been concluded that technology offers important contributions in this process and that the use of new technologies is also vital.
