Summary/Abstract: The text analyzes the poetic gift of St. Nektarios of Aegina and his turn of phrase. As St. Nektarios himself confesses, poetry was for him as it is for the entire cult and liturgical theology of the Orthodox Church, a natural way to approach and communicate with God. This constant avocation bore plenty of fruits, Saint Nectarios being the author of four original volumes of religious poetry, standing out in the atmosphere of the ecclesiastical life at the beginning of the last century in opposition to his seemingly prosaic life constantly temptated and bound to marginally survive. The question of whether St. Nektarios “was a hymnographer or a hymnologist” remains open, each encounter with his texts only revealing new semantic, musical and spiritual riches. Above all, the belief remains that the Metropolitan of Pentapole was a real “artist of God, a deified versifier, a soul who brought to an image in verses the sighs from the bottom of his heart”
