Summary/Abstract: The field of language development and language disorders in children with bilingualism has been attracting special attention of researchers in recent years. This paper systematically presents the development of language structure and language disorders in children with bilingualism. Our goal was to contribute to a better understanding of possible language developmental disorders in children growing up in a bilingual environment. Based on a review of a large number of empirical and review papers, we can say that language development in bilingual children is always considered in comparison with monolingual peers. It has been shown that bilingual as well as monolingual children of typical language development gradually adopt all elements of the language structure, with bilingualism revealing certain specifics in that development. It was concluded that there is a lack of reliable instruments that would equally assess both languages, with many other factors having to be taken into account, the type of bilingualism, the environment, cognitive factors and their repercussion on language development.
