Summary/Abstract: This article is a chronicle of the book Patriarch Photios of Constantinople, signed by Marin Menuţ Lărgean. The volume captures the personality of one of the most important patriarchs of the Orthodox Church, a prominent name of the 9th century when important disputes were fought between the East and the West. The book brings us closer to the atmosphere of those troubled times, first by presenting the atmosphere of Byzantium and then by highlighting the differences between Constantinople and Rome. The book focuses on presenting the ecclesiastical, theological and scholarly activity of the great hierarch, but also on shaping the social, political and religious climate of his time. The volume reveals a series of remarkable events in which Photios played an essential role, and which placed him into the attention of posterity.
