Summary/Abstract: Lyric poem is a term that originated and was used in Ancient Greece. The concept “lyric” is analysed in two groups as classical and modern. There are differences between the use of lyric poem in the Ancient Age and the perception of modern lyric poem which developed after the XVIII Century. In the article firstly, the root of the concept was discussed; then the thoughts of Western Literature scholars as the origin of the modern lyric poem were discussed. The thoughts of German, French and American literati were also examined. It has been seen that there is no agreement on the concept of lyric among literati, poets and philosophers. Evaluations made about the lyric poem in the Western Literature have been studied. The articles of some Western writers written and overlooked have been studied. What is meant by lyric in the Turkish literature and what expression is used for the lyric poem in Turkish have been examined. The article Yahya Kemal wrote on lyric poem and lyricism was explained. What the harmony elements consist of in the Divan Poems and their contributions to lyric poem have been identified. A stanza that reflected the poetic conception of Fuzuli was examined with reference to lyric poem. The poetics Şeyh Galib discussed in Hüsn-ü Aşk mesnevi was examined and its relation to lyric poem was mentioned. A poem and poet evaluation was given and it was analysed in terms of lyric poem. Why and how a ghazel by Fuzuli is a lyric poem has been analysed and it was studied in terms of ghazel lyrism.
