Summary/Abstract: The present article evokes Father Archimandrite Placide Deseille, five years after his passing away. Grafted on the trunk of the Athonite spirituality, Father Archimandrite Placide Deseille transplanted the Holy Mountain to Western France, like other contemporary aghiorite monks, founders of monastic life in the West, such as Venerable Sophronius of Essex in England, or Elder Ephraim from Philotheou in Arizona. The French Archimandrite Placide Deseille was a disciple of the abbot Aimilianos of Simonopetra, with whose blessing he returned to France after his conversion to monasticism, to found there the Athonite metochi of the Simonos Petra lavra, giving a good and holy start to Orthodox monasticism in the Hexagon. He was loved and respected for the holiness of his life not just by his disciples, but by all those who knew him, regardless of religion or nationality.
