Summary/Abstract: The expansion or contraction of the meaning of a word that has come from centuries ago and still exists today is quite natural. Without considering the adventure of the word, giving meaning to the word from today, especially in the old texts, increases the possibility of the reader to misunderstand the word. If the word has been termed and has continued to exist in the language with its “real meaning” after the terminology, the possibility of misunderstanding of the word increases even more. Understanding the meaning of the concept of “gulbâng”, which is a word of this kind and a name for a literary genre, before expressing a “prayer text with a certain shape and content” will enable us to understand the texts in which the concept is used. In this article, the "origin knowledge" of the concept of gulbâng has been examined. Different views on the meaning of the concept have been evaluated. It has been revealed with which concepts the word, which was transferred from Persian to Turkish, was met in Turkish, especially in the Hafez’s Divan. It has been explained with what motive the word is a name for a type of prayer.
