Summary/Abstract: While some writers speak of a new wave and a new, digital, revolution in the history of humanity, other authors consider that right now humanity takes part in the greatest uncontrolled psychological experiment in history, the effects of which still can’t be fully foreseen. On one hand there are the technophiles, the digital optimists, who believe technology will radically change the very way of human existence, leading to singularity as a union between man and machine. On the other hand there are the techno-skeptics and the technophobes who, more or less knowingly, warn on the danger represented by a scenario where machines produced by artificial intelligence take over, which, in the worst case, would lead to the extinction of humanity. There are also people – fewer, admittedly – who recommend a balanced attitude in evaluating the role of technology. They highlight, with moral discernment, a truth that christian faith and spirituality have always supported: the problem is not the material world, or technology itself, but our attitude towards it. When used in an ethical and controlled manner, it can actually make life easier and more beautiful. But, without wisdom and without a balanced relationship with it, it can lead to serious addictions and real physical and spiritual bondage.
