Summary/Abstract: Family is a topic of discussion today, in a world with fewer and fewer cultural barriers and increasingly overcome with moral, social, and religious relativism. We know that over time, polygamy was practised throughout the Old Testament, and this is a challenge to the Judeo-Christian world, which today accepts only monogamy. In this context, the study tries to briefly present the reasons why polygamy was once allowed in history and the reasons why it cannot be accepted today. In the view of the Holy Scriptures and in Judeo-Christian thought, family means one man and one woman, who give themselves to each other according to the YHWH-Israel / Christ-Church model, restoring the primordial unity of male and female. Polygamy was only a contextual compromise, but monogamy is the ideal.
