Summary/Abstract: Disabled parenthood, despite a certain degree of emancipation of these people, remains a taboo in public discussion. Numerous studies conducted over the last 20 years show that the conviction that a person with a disability should not become a parent still persists in society. However, women with visual impairment are determined to experience motherhood. From the moment of taking the decision to have a baby, blind women are forced to face stereotypical beliefs and attitudes concerning the idea of maternity during their encounters with health care staff. From appointments with a gynaecologist to having tests done at each stage of perinatal care, visually impaired women struggle with the oppression of the health care system, which does not cater for the special needs of people with an impairment. This problem culminates with their labour and post-natal hospital care. The article aims at presenting the research and discussing the issue of oppression experienced by impaired mothers within the health care system.
