Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the influence of Germany and France on the course of the Russian-Ukrainian war in 2022. The war changed the perception of the elites and societies of these countries about Russia and Ukraine. Germany and France proved to be unprepared for successful preventive diplomacy. It was difficult to make decisions about providing aid to Ukraine. The German and French elites consider the risk of territorial disintegration of Russia as an additional challenge to European security. “Brexit” and the Russian-Ukrainian war complicated the process of reforming the European Union. It was only possible to adopt decisions on sanctions. But the determining factor of the war is the stability of Ukraine and the European Union.
