Summary/Abstract: This article aims to bridge the gap between migration studies and humanities by conducting an interdisciplinary exploration of the relationship between mobility, modernity and the urban imaginary in the twentieth century. What are the connections between the rise of the modern city and the construction of transnational identities? How did the phenomenon of migration in its turn veer the socio-economic trajectory of the modern city towards transnationalism? Answering these questions allows us to better understand the negotiation of identity in the urban imaginary of the twentieth century.
