Unemployment In Plovdiv in the 40s, 50s and 60s of the 20th Century and the Measures to Deal with it in the Memories of Todor Zvezdov

Summary/Abstract: This article presents Todor Zvezdov’s memories of unemployment in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, in the 40s, 50s and early 60s of the20thcentury. T. Zvezdov was one of the prominent members of the communist movement in the city and his recollections are of interest mainly because of the indicated measures to deal with this serious problem. The memoirs are published for the first time here, and represent a new source related to the economic policy of the communist authorities in Plovdiv during the mentioned period. The measures included increased industrialization through the establishment of large industrial enterprises to provide employment to the increasingly large population of the city.
