Summary/Abstract: Over the past 10 years, many studies have focused on the analysis of gut microbiota and how altering its composition is associated with various gastrointestinal diseases, such as irritable bowel syndrome, celiac disease, gastrointestinal cancer, Clostridium difficile infection, or diabetes. Also, the gut-brain axis is a two-way communication between the central nervous system and the enteric nervous system. In this way, the connection between the emotional and cognitive centers of the brain and peripheral intestinal functions, such as activation of immunity, intestinal permeability, enteric reflex, and enteroendocrine signaling is achieved. In this context, we are continuing here our recent interests in reviewing the implications of intestinal microflora on the onset of digestive, metabolic and neuropsychiatric disorders and their interactions.
