Summary/Abstract: Children and teenagers from foster care centers are faced with a number of educational problems. Poor school results, high absenteeism, or inappropriate class behaviors are often encountered among institutionalized children and teenagers. The present paper aims to highlight their educational context, emphasizing the problems and needs they encounter in the learning process. Sixty-two children and teenagers from 3 Transylvanian foster care centers responded to a questionnaire survey and 36 of them along with 7 social work specialists were interviewed by the students and teaching staff of the Social Work Department in the “Lucian Blaga” University in Sibiu. Results indicate an urgent need for socio-educational measures to counteract the difficulties and meet the educational requirements of the children and teenagers in the foster care system.
