Summary/Abstract: Motivation and analogy: issues of similarity in Linguistics. The purpose of this paper is to describe linguistic motivation as a form of analogical process. Relative motivation, imagic iconicity and diagrammatic iconicity are shown implying similarities, which are the basis of analogical processes, in both linguistic and cognitive senses. Different types of similarities in language are distinguished, involving mental entities (forms, representations) and extra-mental entities.
