Summary/Abstract: The issue of values is a key issue in social sciences, also in pedagogy. The upbringing process is firmly embedded and refers to, among others, to such issues like patterns and standards. They are interpreted axiologically and they obtain always an axiological interpretation. Each of the pedagogical subdisciplines deals with this issue in a specific and aspective way. For social pedagogy next to the already traditional cognitive and interpretative areas, such as the adopted concepts of man and social life are also important the area of, and the issue of rules on the basis of which should/can be transformed – in the process of education – social world. One of them is the principle of the common good. A question can be asked: down to what traditions does social pedagogy follow in this respect, how does it interpret this principle and what are the contemporary challenges associated with it?
