Summary/Abstract: This paper raises the issue of the nomenclature of cheeses (tyronyms). The analysedonymic corpus comprises 200 proper names of cheeses produced by the Polish localcheese dairies and organic farms. The focal point of this discussion is the descriptionof the motivation behind modern tyronyms and the factors determining the nomenclature.Attention is also paid to the formal structure of these names and the ways oftheir formation. These explorations are of synchronous nature.
