Summary/Abstract: The topic of this reflection is the interpretation of literary texts in schools, especially the analysis and interpretation of poetry in high school. I start with some thoughts about the status of interpretation in didactics and literature studies in schools to show and contextualize the complicated history of shaping the reading and understanding skills of students and the methods that have been utilized to check them from the 1970s until today. I am especially interested in issues around composing an interpretive statement, especially in the ability of a student to harmonize their reading and writing, their ability to capture in text their own thoughts and reflections. I focus my attention on the comparative interpretation of two poems and recall the accomplishments of Bożena Chrząstowska, looking at her position on this topic from the perspective of didactics today.
