Summary/Abstract: The article is a case study devoted to the way Slavic themes are present in contemporary Polish fantasy work. The texts quoted here are also representatives of the two artistic strategies dominant in the native Slavicfantasy: focus on exposing the historical dimension of the plot; emphasizing the creative aspect of the described adventures. The confrontation of Christa’s comics and Terakowska’s novel make us aware of the extent to which the image of Slavicness functioning in the imaginarium communis is situated between what is reconstructed thanks to the findings of historians and archaeologists, and what is created for the needs of the story by the power of artistic imagination. The dividing line runs not so much between individual cultural texts as across them. Both artistic visions of the Slavic region are united by the search for spiritual community (this applies especially to the Loneliness of the Gods) in the reality of rejecting its hitherto, established by tradition, institutionalized formula.
