Summary/Abstract: The article contains an analysis of fundamental cultural and literary themes discussed in the book titled Kolce Grünewalda. Nie tylko o ekfrazach (Grünewald’s Thorns. Not only about Ekphrases) written by Katarzyna Szewczyk-Haake. The main aim of this review is to refer the most important theoretical cathegories of research area explored by Szewczyk-Haake, especially relations between literature and pictorial art. In obedience to the methodological frame chosen for consideration by the author of Grünewald’s Thorns, the ekphrases in contemporary poetry have an aesthetic signifiance but also an ethical denotation and an existential sense.
