Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to analyze the effect of foreign direct investment (FDI) on the growth of regional production in Bulgaria. For the purpose of continuity, an analytical review of methodology and conclusions of previous studies for different countries and regions was made. In search of an analytical framework, the evolution of neoclassical and endogenous models of growth with participation of FDI and TNCs was traced. In the last part of the article a mathematical model of regional production with the participation of FDI was derived and estimated. The analysis of the results suggests that in general FDI has a positive effect on local production, but its importance is simmilar to that of national capital, and depends on the absorption capacity of the local economy.
