Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the relations mobility–immobility in the prose by contemporary Belgian writer Jean-Philippe Toussaint on the basis of the tetralogy M.M.M.M. (2017) and the diptych Jean Detrez (written since 2019). The category of “literary kinetics” proposed by Edward Kasperski is used. In Toussaint’s prose the immanent kinetics is based on the unity of the contraries: mobility and immobility. It concerns the form and the plot. It includes the poetics of silence, the literary fugue, the eternal brooding (shaking) category, the temporality experience, the literary representation of the contemporary changes in different fields and the extralinguistic expression of the inexpressible.
