Summary/Abstract: At the beginning of 19th century, Romanians passed through a process of Europeanization which implied a fast assimilation of modern Occidental civilisation. This process of modernising Romanian society occurred within the frame of a global European evolution, but under a strong French influence, which was perceived, at a certain moment, as excessive. In this article we intend to refer to the influences which French had on Romanian language and literature and to discuss the importance of the French model in the process of modernising Romanian society.
