Summary/Abstract: A Review of Wolfgang Pleister und Wolfgang Schild (Eds.), Recht und Gerechtigkeit im Spiegel der europäischen Kunst. With constributions by Hans Latz, Johannes Latz, Wolfgang Pleister, Wolfgang Schild und Kurt Seelmann. DuMont Buchverlag Cologne 1988. // For some time now, legal scholars have been interested not only in literature but also in the fine arts. Therefore, an excellently illustrated book like this one on “Law and Justice as Reflected in European Art” was to be expected. It is a book by lawyers: two legal scholars and legal philosophers, a judge, a lawyer and a trainee lawyer have contributed to the volume. Art historians were not involved in the company. This arouses the suspicion that lawyers, as is well known, want to treat their own problems in the field of art. The mirror metaphor of the title threatens to confirm the suspicion. It is no coincidence that another reviewer speaks quite impartially of "reflection". On closer inspection, however, the contributions reveal considerable differences in quality.
