Summary/Abstract: The article deals with autochthonous vocabulary from the archive of the Dictionary of Transylvanian Saxon Dialects, a monumental work which is elaborated in the Research Institute for Social Studies and the Humanities in Sibiu. The thesaurus of the Saxons’ dialects is in its great majority derived from German words, but during centuries of cohabitation with Romanians and Hungarians they took over a lot of words from their neighbors. The Saxons adapted and amalgamated these loan words.
