HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT OF DECORATIVE WEAVING

Summary/Abstract: The text stresses on the problem of decorative weaving since its creation until the end of the 19th century. Listed are images that testify to the practice of weaving in Ancient Egypt, China, Asyro-Babylonia, Ancient Greece. Particular attention was paid to the Coptic carpets of the early Christian period of Egypt (4-7c.). Specimens of the oldest carpets and fabrics in the Altai Mountains near Pazirik are shown. The history of Bulgarian weaving from its birth to the end of the 19th century is traced in the context of social and economic conditions. Emphasis is placed on the development of this craft in the carpet centers - Chiprovtsi, Pirot and Sliven. The technical, compositional and color features of the carpets are indicated as an integral part of the Bulgarian lifestyle.
