Summary/Abstract: The study explores one of the most controversial periods in the development of Bulgarian fiction for children, i.e. the second half of the 20th century, a period marked by aesthetic normativism. It pinpoints the literary attempts that aim at deofficialization of childhood, the movement of literary consciousness towards new psychological and conceptual beginnings, situated outside the zone of the unrelenting paternalistic norm which dictates what “must happen”. A type of fiction, representative of the tendency toward monopsychology is being identified. A peculiarity which makes such fiction a priori antinormativistic, as much as it becomes a sign for full, even demonstrative denial of the collectivistic ideal. Subject of analysis are thе works that emphasize the existential completeness of children’s life: the ability of the young protagonists to contemplate and observe, their inner freedom, desire to play, their inclination to fantasize and dream.
