In memoriam Helju Kaal

Summary/Abstract: On January 19, 2023, the life path of Helju Kaalu, the long-standing iron asset of the Mother tongue Society, came to an end. He dedicated more than half a century of his life to the Estonian language and work in the Mother Language Society, becoming a symbol of the society, without him it would be hard to imagine its daily life. He himself could not plan to become a linguist in his youth, but the social conditions in his formative years became decisive.
