Summary/Abstract: In the article, by examining the basic concepts of law, it is revealed what constitutes power as the basis of law. It is shown that, both in the case of legal positivism and in the case of the natural law concept of law, we are talking about relying on rationality, but rationality of different types: in the first case - on the functional, providing a pragmatic level, in the second - on the substantive, as on the sphere values and meanings. It is analyzed, due to which and how the nature of the basis of law changes in the situation of postmodernity
