Strategies of Conquering the Scientific Field - The Relation of Sociology of the Body Towards Feminism

Summary/Abstract: This paper is part of the study on founding of sociology of the body as a scientific discipline. Michel de Certeau's theoretical strategy/tactics dyad has been the key framework paradigm. The analysis of strategic appropriation of scientific "territory" has revealed specific ways of constitution of its own area. The newly founded science made its own position through relations to selected sciences, scientific fields and theories. The emphasis of the paper remains on the very indicative treatment of feminist discourse by the founders of discipline (Bryan Turner, Sue Scott, David Morgan, Chris Shilling). Dealing with various techniques that have been used by those scholars should also shed light on the general process of institutionalization of discourse of sociology of the body.
