Summary/Abstract: At the end of 2001, Standard and Poor's, one of the main western rating agencies, raised Romania's rating from B- to B. This was a big relief for a country which not long ago (in 1999) was threatened by external default. What are the prospects now and could Romania come close to an investment grade in the forseeable future which could propel her nearer to the main EU candidate countries?
