Summary/Abstract: The performance of school libraries in Romania during the years 1990-2017 is evaluated on basis of the data provided by the Romanian National Institute of Statistics. First part of the work presents the Romanian legislative benchmarks that determine the Second part of the work is an overall analysis at national level of school libraries performances based on a statistical analysis of the number of school libraries, the number of volumes held by school libraries, the number of active readers and the number of books borrowed by them. The conclusion presents the positive and negative effects and the argumentation for the positive and / or negative transformations that occurred during 1990-2017 in the activity of school libraries.
