Summary/Abstract: The analysis of the phenomenon of demographic aging in Romania shows an increase of the "pressure" of the elderly population on the adult population - potentially active, implicitly on important social systems (health, social assistance, social insurance budget), with implications for the economic and social policy. Evolution of age structure denotes an aging trend of the population on long-term. The relatively high proportion of the elderly population calls for a certain effort on the part of society, forced to allocate resources to long-term care, social and health care services for this population. Generally speaking, the elderly face a lot of social problems, including the deterioration of the state of health and hence the altered working capacity, the limitation of collective relationships (loneliness, social isolation), the lack of social and medical services for the elderly. The paper aims to evaluate the need for home care services for older people by applying a questionnaire to people over 65 years of age with disabilities. The research shows that the phenomenon of demographic aging is increasing, with consequences on the need for services addressed to the elderly. Developing community-based services to help keep the elderly in the family is likely to prevent institutionalization, ensure autonomy and health, a more active life, and an active role in society.
