BETWEEN ALTERNATIVE HISTORY AND TEMPORAL UTOPIA: THE UCHRONIC POTENTIAL

Summary/Abstract: This paper aims to discuss some contemporary uses of the notion of uchronia, which is applied synonymously with the alternative history genre on the one hand, and autonomously as a temporalized utopia on the other, in order to prove their insufficiency of both cases. Its main goal is to offer science fiction scholars new theoretical perspectives through which they can read (anti)utopian narratives and analyze the popular trope of time travel in science fiction.
