Summary/Abstract: This paper will focus on the Pacific valued concept of vaa/ vaha’a/wah and its implications for enhancing inter-personal as well as inter-cultural understanding. Because the cultural identity formation of most Oceanic people are relational rather than individualistic, it follows that the spaces or vaa between and among persons, or between a person and his/her environment, together with the frameworks that determine such relationships, must be nurtured and protected. Damage to the vaa, at best will result in misunderstanding and at worst, violent conflicts. Understanding the significance of the notion of vaa and educating for its continued nurturance and maintenance are central to any discussion about education for inter-cultural understanding, in Oceania, if not globally
