On authentic texts in the context of secondary school teaching

Summary/Abstract: This article addresses issues related to the introduction of authentic written texts in foreign language lessons. The possibilities of their use are presented, their types are described, as well as the criteria of their selection. The importance of authentic texts is emphasized as they enable contact with the living language and, due to their natural complexity, also general competence. They are the basis for grammatical and lexical exercises. As a source of cultural knowledge, they enhance the attractiveness of the classes.
